All About Cheesecake Cupcakes

Sometimes, the best things in life are combinations and mixtures of two items that are wonderful on their own. Such is the case with cheesecake cupcakes. Combining the classic elegance of cheesecake with the trendy, fun vibe of cupcakes leads to a dessert that is both playful and dignified. Just as with cupcake and cheesecake recipes, there are numerous types of cheesecake cupcakes. There are chocolate, raspberry, cherry varieties and more! Despite the sheer amount of available recipes and variations, there are two main types of cheesecake cupcakes. No matter what type you ultimately prefer, these desserts are decadent and delicious.

Miniature Cheesecakes

The first type of cheesecake cupcakes is often described as a miniature cheesecake. Baked in cupcake liners and pans, these desserts are really not different from full size cheesecakes. In fact, the major difference is almost always in the crust. Instead of using a graham cracker crust, these utilize vanilla wafers instead. One popular addition to these is the sour cream topping that is also used often with New York style cheesecakes. One helpful fact to note is that these freeze well, so you can do your baking ahead of schedule. That’s great when you know you’re entering into a busy season, like the holidays. In fact, cheesecake cupcakes are ideal for Christmas parties! Try topping them with some cherries for that holiday cheer.

That Creamy Filling

If you prefer a more traditional cupcake with a bit of rich cheesecake filling, the second type of cheesecake cupcakes is for you! These may seem difficult to bake, but in actuality, they are quite simple. To begin, mix together the cupcake batter you prefer. You can use any type you like, but some popular options include strawberry and chocolate. Also, beat together a cream cheese mixture (you can find tons of recipes all over the web). Fill your cupcake liners (in the pan!) about two thirds of the way full with the cupcake batter. Next, place a dollop of the cream cheese mixture on top of the cupcake batter in the center. It is tempting for most people to try and push down this dollop, but that is unnecessary. The cream cheese mixture will sink into the cupcakes during the baking, so you don’t have to struggle to make it happen. These are perfect for those bake sales and class snacks when you want to do a little something special.

A Break From the Ordinary

No matter which type of cheesecake cupcakes you opt for, it’s a great way to break out of the normal expectations for both cheesecake and cupcakes. You can experiment with flavor and flavor pairings, particularly with the second kind. During the fall, pumpkin spice cupcakes with regular cheesecake filling would be delightful. Perhaps during Christmas, you might like to make a chocolate cupcake with peppermint flavored cheesecake filling. You have as many options available to you as you can imagine. So, for that next potluck or dinner party, eschew the usual desserts and go for something fresh and unique!
